Why a desktop app

The desktop app runs on the school office PC. It has the same features as the web app and keeps working with no internet, so the office carries on during network problems. When the PC is online it syncs with the web, so teachers and parents always see the latest.

Install and activate

Who can do thisAdmins

  1. Install SR on the office PC from the link in the email with your activation key.
  2. Open SR, type the key and click Activate. The PC needs the internet for this step.
  3. Sign in with an admin's username and password.

Backups

Who can do thisAdmins

  1. Open Settings › This PC › Backups.
  2. Press Choose folder and pick a USB stick (or a folder that's copied elsewhere).
  3. Leave Back up automatically on. SR saves an encrypted copy of the PC's data and photos once a day while it's open, and keeps the 10 newest.
  4. Restoring: Restore from a file… and pick a backup.

Backups are encrypted with your school's key. Only SR can open them, and we keep a copy of the key, so you can restore on a new PC. Connect the PC to the internet once so we have it.

Moving to a new PC

Who can do thisAdmins

  1. On the old PC: Settings › This PC › Licence › Remove from this PC.
  2. On the new PC: install SR, activate it with the same key and link it to your school. It downloads everything.

Questions

Do we need the desktop app?
No. The web app does everything on any phone or computer. The desktop app is for schools that want the office to keep working without internet.
How often must the PC go online?
At least once every 60 days, so SR can check the licence. It keeps working offline in between, and syncs whenever it's online.
